The Costa del Sol is famous for its beach bars, known here as Chiringuitos. They are well worth trying out, and vary from simple barbequed sardines to meat on skewers, to simply chill-out bars. La Costa del Sol es famoso por sus chiringuitos en la playa. Muchos de ellos merecen la pena probar, y varían desde simplemente ‘espetos’ de sardinas (6 en un palo) hasta brochetas de carne, todo tipo de mariscos y bares tipo chillout.
In our nearest seaside town, Torre del Mar, you will find plenty! In the Summer, when they are all open, start at one end of Torre and see how far you can get!!
In Torre del Mar, if you are looking to eat fresh seafood and fish, almost any of the many chiringuitos will be satisfactory, although some are ‘prettier’ than others. In the heat of Summer, night time is best, and most are decorated with pretty
exterior lighting hidden in the tropical foliage, and the fish barbeque, usually set up in an old fishing boat, is a delight to see! My favorite is ‘espetos’ de sardinas (an espeto is a skewer of 6 fresh sardines cooked over the open fire – agghh!) The calamares are excellent too, plus fresh ‘rosada’, a delicious white mediterranean fish. ‘A la plancha’ (cooked on the hotplate) is nicer than ‘frito’ (fried in batter) – and healthier!
Also in Torre del Mar, try out Chinguito Bahia de Tanit, which is right down the Western end of the beach, a short walk further West from the lighthouse. This chill-out bar is a great way to relax on a warm Summer evening – relax in a sofa, have a cocktail and chill to the combined sound of the relaxing music and the waves gently breaking just a few metres away. And at the weekends, you will find dancing at Bahia de Tanit and other chiringuitos.
En nuestro pueblo costero más cercano, Torre del Mar, encontrarás una gran selección de chiriguitos abiertos cada verano – ¡y si empiezas en un extremo de la playa y pasas por todos hasta el otro extremo, no puedo garantizar cómo terminarás!
En Torre del Mar, si te gusta el pescado fresco y los mariscos, casi todos los chiringuitos lo sirven, aunque algunos son más bonitos que otros. En el verano, es mejor probarlos de noche, momento en que el ambiente es mágico, con lucecitas escondidas entre los plataneros y palmeras y las barbacoas se realizar en barquitas antiguas de pesca. Los espetos de sardinas son divinos, los calamares excelentes, y la ‘rosada’ muy buena, tanto a la plancha como frita.
