The Escuela

Escuela means school, and that is exactly what this beautiful building, now a bed and breakfast, was built for – to educate the local children of the hamlet of La Crujía.

Built in the 1940’s, among the lemon, mandarin and avocado groves of this lush, tropical valley, the school was active until 1995.  Today the building has been fully restored and extended to provide comfortable rural accommodation for holiday makers looking to escape from the tourists, relax in a peaceful, private environment, and explore the area freely.

The Escuela offers three comfortable guest units to rent individually or together, each with their own access and terrace areas.  See Our Rooms.

The old schoolroom itself is a fascinating old hall, now our guest living and breakfast room and is well stocked with books in English and Spanish for our guests to read.

The gardens are perfect for relaxing in the sun or taking a cooling dip in the pool, accompanied only by the cheerful cheeping of the many birds.   Guests are free to make use of the BBQ, play table tennis, beat the boxing bag.. and there is a great trampoline for the kids to work off all that extra energy!

But you may simply wish to sit, relax, sunbathe, read a book from our library, or, especially nice, contemplate the beauty of the sky as the sun sets and night time descends on the valley.   At night the Escuela and its gardens become a magical world of pretty lights, with the twinkling lights of the ancient Moorish town of Vélez-Málaga visible beyond.  And for Summer visitors, we recommend a midnight dip in the pool… heaven!
